The Farmhouse: from a traditional country house to a working farm and guest house

The building of the original house, as we can see from a hand written inscribed brick, began in 1771. Originally, it was a typical Tuscan country house, with a square frame and a vaulted dovecote at the top. These houses were known as “Leopoldian homes”, named after the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Pietro Leopoldo who had these houses built for the peasant farming families in times of poverty.

With the changing needs of the families who have lived in these houses, in time, it has been modified a number of times, until now where the actual building stands.

Following World War II as well as results of the depopulation of the countryside in the period of the industrialization of the cities, the house had been abandoned until 1986, when it was bought, along with the olive groves surrounding it, by the Villani family.

The work to rebuild the house began in the beginning of the 1990s. They tried as best they could to maintain all of the original characteristics, as well as, as much of the original materials in order to keep it warm and genuine; the typical Tuscan farm house.

Finally, after 6 years of hard work, in 1997 the adventure of Agriturismo Poderi Nesti&Cupoli began.
